Occasionally you might encounter transactions in Koinly with incorrect dates. This can lead to confusion and potential issues with tax reporting, as accurate dates are crucial for calculating your gains, losses, and other taxable events.
Here’s a guide on how to resolve incorrect dates on transactions, depending on how the data was imported into Koinly.
1. Incorrect dates for API imports
If a transaction date is incorrect and the transaction was imported via API, the best course of action is to report this to Koinly as a bug. Here’s how to handle it:
Report to Koinly support: Reach out to Koinly support and share details of the issue.
Make sure to include:
• A screenshot of the transaction as it appears in Koinly.
• The wallet/exchange where the transaction occurred.
• Any additional context, like the correct date and time.
The support team will investigate and work on fixing the issue with the API integration.
2. Incorrect dates for CSV imports
If your transaction dates are incorrect and the data was imported via CSV, you have the following options:
Fix the dates in the CSV file: If the date errors are due to incorrect data in the CSV, you can manually correct the dates in the CSV file and re-upload it to Koinly. Make sure the dates are formatted correctly and match the expected time zone.
Report the issue to Koinly support: If the CSV was correctly formatted but still imports with incorrect dates, report this to Koinly support as a bug.
Provide the following details:
• A screenshot of the incorrect transaction in Koinly.
• The original CSV file.
• The expected time zone and correct transaction date.
3. Fixing one-off transactions (manual or CSV imports)
If the incorrect date applies to just a few transactions, you can easily fix these within Koinly:
Edit the transaction directly: For manual transactions or those imported via CSV, simply click on the Edit button and adjust the date to the correct one. Once saved, this will update the transaction with the correct date.
4. For API-imported transactions (editing locked fields)
If you need to edit the date for a specific transaction that was imported via API, follow these steps:
Edit locked fields: Click on the transaction, click 'Edit' and then select “Edit locked fields.” This will allow you to manually adjust the date even though the transaction was imported through the API. However, if you notice multiple transactions with incorrect dates, we recommend reporting this as an API bug.
