Bulk editing via Export/Import

Koinly allows you to edit your transactions in a spreadsheet editor such as Excel.

To do this, you simply follow these 3 steps:

  1. Export a file with your transactions

  2. Edit the file in Excel or a similar editor

  3. Import the edited file

Below are more detailed instructions and useful notes.

1. How to export your transactions

You can export your transactions on the Transactions page by selecting the 3 dots in the right corner

You will see a dialogue allowing you to click a Download button. This will download all transactions that have been filtered. If no filter has been applied, your exported file will include all of your transactions.

Note: Exporting transactions is only available to users with a paid plan. You can only export transactions for tax years you have paid for, so you may have to filter the transactions to show just those years.

2. How to edit your transactions

The exported file will be in CSV format, which is a standard format for spreadsheets. This file can be opened in any spreadsheet editor, such as Excel, Google Sheets, or iOS Numbers.

After opening the file in your editor, you can edit any of the fields that you would like to update. Note that any field marked as "read-only" can not be edited.

Notes on commonly edited attributes:

  • Dates
In order to edit the date of a transaction, you need to make sure that you use the date format yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss. All timestamps need to be entered in UTC

  • Tags
    โ€‹
To change a tag, simply update the value in the field. To remove a tag, you can leave the field empty. Read more about tags here

  • Currencies
Any currency field can be updated by replacing the value present. The exported file will display all currencies with both their symbol and Koinly's internal ID, but you do not need to add an ID in order to change the currency for a transaction.

At this time, API-imported transactions can not be edited (only tags and descriptions can be changed). We are working on adding this functionality so that all transactions can be edited

3. How to import your transactions

Once you have edited your file, you can import it back to Koinly by clicking on the Export/Import option again.
โ€‹

Once you have selected your file and clicked on Import, Koinly will detect and process any changes that you have made to the transactions. You will see a warning if changes could not be processed (for example, if you entered an invalid tag).

Note that the date formats need to be in yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss. Make sure that your editor is not re-formatting the dates in your file, as this will prevent the file from being processed.
