How to handle transactions showing a warning about the missing price of the asset

After importing your transactions, Koinly will set the worth (fair market value at the time of the transaction) using data from aggregators like CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko (see How Koinly sets the market price for your transactions).

In cases where:

  • The token is not listed on neither of these platforms

  • The transaction happened before the token was listed, so there is no data for that particular day

Koinly will show a warning "No market price found for XYZ on this date" as in the example below:

To clear this warning, you need to set the worth manually.

🚨 What happens if this warning is not cleared?

If you do not set the worth on transactions showing this warning, Koinly assumes $0.00 as the value of this transaction. If this is the value of the transaction, then this warning doesn't have to be cleared (as $0.00 is already set)

How to set the worth of a transaction manually

There are two ways to set the market worth on a transaction:

  • Set the worth directly from the Transactions page

    1. Click on the current value of the transaction (on the right side)

    2. Fill the worth field on thew popup - mind that this is the worth of the entire transaction, not the unit price

    3. You can choose the fiat currency (by default, your base currency is selected)

    4. Click "Save"

  • Set the worth from the transaction edit screen

    1. Click the 3-dot menu next to the transaction and choose "Edit", or click the edit icon (the pencil)

    2. On the edit popup, click "change" next to the current worth

    3. Fill the worth field - mind that this is the worth of the entire transaction, not the unit price

    4. You can choose the fiat currency (by default, your base currency is selected)

    5. Once done, click "Save"

ℹ️ Merging trades also assigns the missing market price

In some cases, this error shows on a trade Koinly didn't merge automatically. If you traded a token with a known market price (e.g. ETH) for a token with this error, then you can merge those transactions (How to merge transactions).

Once merged, Koinly will use the value of the known token, automatically clearing this warning.

Token is listed on the "Markets" page but Koinly imports it as unrecognised

In some cases, after syncing the wallet, Koinly will import an asset with the correct symbol but a grey icon, even though the token is known and visible (with the correct logo) on the "Markets" page.

If this happens, you can point Koinly to the correct asset which will automatically fix the issue with the unknown market price. You can use "Change Currency" for that or Bulk editing.

Where to get the value of a token

It may be difficult to find what the token was worth on the day - after all, there is no data about it in data aggregators we use. Often, you can still estimate the value of the transaction by checking:

  • Other price aggregators (e.g. Coinpaprika)

  • Dex price aggregators (e.g. Dexscreener, Birdseye)

Confirm with your accountant if unsure about the quality of the data source you're planning on using.
