MATIC (Polygon) initiated their migration to a new updated token POL (Polygon Ecosystem Token) on the 4th of September 2024.

From the 10th of September 2024, the primary Polygon Network will use POL as a native gas token instead of MATIC. This token switch is instant and requires no action.

Users from other chains will need to migrate to POL token via migration contract or deposit to CEX/bridge.

🟡 Note: During this migration process, Koinly decided to temporarily stay with the old currency ticker MATIC.
​

There are plans to rename native MATIC to POL in the coming months once everyone has migrated to the new token standard.

We encourage our users to use the ‘change currency’ feature or manual edits to rename any POL (Polygon Ecosystem Token) that they may have received or traded into native MATIC.

All of the POL transactions should be seen as MATIC in Koinly to ensure a smooth migration in the future.
